Download: Custom Photoshop Brushes, Series 19 20 hair and fur brushes for texture mapping By Dave Nagel Most of you who create textures for 3D objects incorporate Adobe Photoshop into your workflow, so I thought I'd start a new series of brushes for Photoshop to help generate the various elements that go into a texture, particularly human and animal forms. For this first installment--our 19th collection of brushes for Photoshop--I've put together 20 individual tools for creating hair and fur effects.

The brushes
This is actually our second collection of hair/fur brushes. The first was geared more toward 2D compositing, which, certainly, these new brushes will also work for. But in particular I wanted this collection to include several brushes that would be good for model texturing, especially for creating body hair, which, of course, is better suited for texture maps that head hair. So to this end I've put together a variety of brushes for creating a wide range of hair effects, from short and curly hair to long and wild. Each one includes its own set of dynamics, which you can change to suit your needs.

Here are some examples from this collection, showing the brushes on a skin texture and using just a few strokes. The brushes' dynamics take care of the rest.

Content Insider #148 - The iGen
NO...Doesn't have a thing to do with "that" smartphone...or "that" store...or "that" tablet. It's the next generation. Kids and we mean little kids. That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it. Read More

Insider #149 - Game Demographics
The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." Read More
